The State of Kuwait Participates in Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan
The State of Kuwait participated in Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan on 8th July 2012 which was attended by more than 80 donor states and international organizations. His Excellency Mr. Abdul-Rahman Humood Al-Otaibi, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Japan headed the Kuwaiti delegation to the conference where he addressed the plenary session.
He communicated with them by convening appreciation to Japan for hosting this significant conference during this crucial juncture for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. His Excellency emphasized the historical aspect of the deep friendly relation between Afghanistan and Kuwait, including particularly the fact that the State of Kuwait hosts a large Afghan community. The State of Kuwait has always stood by the people of Afghanistan to help them achieve security, stability and sustainable development. The State of Kuwait has always been keen to support the effort exerted by international community to provide our good brothers, Afghanistan with tools they need to build prosperous future. The government of the State of Kuwait offered a grant amounting 30 million USD through the Kuwait Fund in 2002; out of which, 15 million USD was allocated for the Afghanistan Construction Fund and the other half was apportioned to help rebuild major roads linking southern city of Kandahar and Spin Boldak, in addition to the assistance provided by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, totaling 8 million USD as well as the assistance provided by the Kuwait Civil Society. His Excellency highlighted the support of the State of Kuwait for the outcomes of the conference and its commitment to coordinate with international community in supporting the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in order to help achieve sustainable development that lays the foundation for flourishing prosperous future.
