H.E. Mr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Otaibi Delivered 2 Million Dollars to Japanese Red Cross Society: President Mr. Konoe Expressed Gratitude

His Excellency Mr. Abdul-Rahman Humood Al-Otaibi, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Japan met the President of the Japanese Red Cross Society Mr. Tadateru Konoe and delivered a Kuwaiti grant of USD two million committed by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah during the State Visit to Japan in March 2012.

President Mr. Konoe expressed gratitude to the government and people of Kuwait for their great support and stressed the depth of relations between the two nations. The grant, he noted, would help the society meet its objectives as it strives to help those affected by the tsunami and earthquake disaster of March 2011 and help with the reconstruction and measures to address the problems related to the Fukushima nuclear plant. The society president reviewed previous projects funded by the Kuwaiti grant of five million barrels of crude oil extended by the State of Kuwait after the disaster last year.

The ambassador stressed the two countries have strong relations for the grant is a gesture that reflects the strength of bonds between the two nations, and the Kuwaiti people hope this grant would come a long way in helping the friendly nation overcome the aftermath of the disaster. He further noted the Japanese Red Cross Society is up to the task of helping those in need both in Japan and elsewhere, and prayed it would be able to shift its focus beyond the disaster-hit areas soon with restoration of normal conditions and meeting reconstruction and relief objectives. Japan is a nation with a long history of repeated instances of standing up on its feet after strife and disaster, the ambassador remarked, expressing confidence it would prove just as resilient yet again.
